![]() ![]() Instance 1: After Mother I’m the darkest in the room, sometimes in the entire palace. I am not the best person to fully comprehend and watch out for the indian culture influence happening in this book, because i am only from the neighbouring country, but i do have some knowledge.Īs a brown women i found it really odd that a white author writing a brown mc had to constantly tell how dark the female mc was in the room than her other brown counterparts in the story. Why is this being marketed as own voices when it’s anything but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. It just irks me that who gets to get away with writing our stories and appropriating our culture in publishing. all of those authors are poc writing about girls of colours. Thankyou to prh international and netgalley for my arc.įirstly, something about this book about brown characters and indian culture written by a white author is deeply unsettling for me, specially when the goodread blurb says perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir, Hafsah Faizal, and Renée Ahdieh. ![]()
